Join me and my songwriter guest Rick Babb and his lovely wife Paula McClanahan at The Auslander on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Bio: Born and raised in Tulsa, OK, Rick was introduced to music and the guitar by his Uncle Don. As a teen, he began writing his own tunes and playing his originals at family reunions.
Rick moved with his family to Texas in the late '60s, where he began performing in coffee houses while working behind the scenes in the concert industry. Rick's work in the music industry put him in the company of many of the greatest artists of our generation, but all the while he continued to perform his own music.
In the '90s, Rick relocated to Nashville to pursue a song-writing career. To supplement his income, he
worked various odd jobs from radio DJ and dishwasher to bartender and circus wrangler.
Rick returned to Dallas in 2003, and began performing again in the Dallas/ Ft Worth area, and in 2011 Rick began to work on his first solo project with Texas music legend Milo Deering. The recording contains thirteen original songs, twelve of which were written/ co-written by Rick Babb. His lyrics range from sensitive to humorous, from seductive to spiritual. Some tunes are left bare, with only acoustic guitar and vocal arrangements. Other melodies are complex with interesting chord progressions. The rhythms vary from samba to shuffle, and styles stretch from twang to gospel. His performances are engaging and energetic.
Now Rick performs regularly with Royce David James on mandolin and Paula McClanahan on upright bass, as well as with various other Texas musicians in the DFW and East Texas areas, and he is still creating new music.
